Kaduna State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has embarked on a sensitisation campaign on government policy of deregulation in the downstream sector of the oil industry.
NOA State Direcrtor, Zubair Galadima-Soba, disclosed this on Monday in Kaduna.
NAN reports that the sensitization campaign began on Oct. 14 across the 23 local government areas of the state.
The campaign was aimed at enlightening the public on the benefits of oil deregulation policy to the government and the governed.
Galadima-Soba, said that the campaign would educate people especially those at the grassroots level on the deregulation policy in the oil industry and get their feedbacks on the matter.
“Our team will explain the importance of removing fuel subsidy which includes saving huge amount to build critical national infrastructure across different key sectors such as health, roads and schools.
“Also, the policy would ensure opening up the petroleum sector for healthy competition where prices reflect market realities and competition”, he said
He said that the deregulation policy would encourage foreign investors to come into the sector and enhance infrastructure development, adding that jobs would be created along the value chain.
According to him, government was spending trillions of naira on oil subsidy which largely benefited the rich rather than the poor.
The director said fuel subsidy removal would assist in channeling the funds to projects that would largely benefit the masses.
He said the campaign was imperative as many people had little knowledge about the deregulation policy.
