Many Nigerians are celebrating Sigma singer, Bright Chimezie, whose brand of highlife made waves especially in the 80s and 90s.
He turned 60 on October 1, thus sharing the day with Nigeria’s Independence.
He shared family pictures as he gleefully announced:
”Hello Good people of the world, I am 60 years old today!
I feel blessed and I’m thankful to God, the maker of heaven and earth. I’m also grateful to you all.
The Ziggima engine still revs.”
Many of those who commented on his post saluted him for the beauty of his music and his life.
One said (sic): He is doing far better than Nigeria that have all the oil, gold ,silver and other natural resources, more wins the ziggima king, such a lovely family portrait, a typical example of a real igbo family, no be all these bad belle tribes that born piikin in every street and state ones they see money, proudly Igbo, no apologies.”
Among other songs, the one in which he tells the story of his encounter with an oyinbo man when he ‘travelled’ abroad remains very popular.
The man, according to him, had invited police to come and arrest him as he was eating ‘swallow’ with ogbono – since the white man though he was committing suicide by taking poison.
