A Senior Magistrates’ Court in Kano State on Wednesday sentenced six men to four months in a correctional centre for possession of dangerous weapons.
The defendants: Abubakar Bala, 19; Godwin Emanuel, 19, Bosam Dauda, 18, Nazifi Shehu, 19, Kabiru Musa, 18 and Kamal Musa, 20 were convicted on two-count charge of management of unlawful society and being in possession of dangerous weapons.
Delivering judgment, Senior Magistrate, Ibrahim Mansur, sentenced the convicts to two months each or a fine of N10,000 for unlawful society.
The court also sentenced the convicts to two months imprisonment each with an option of N10,000 fine for being in possession of dangerous weapons.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Aminu Kwaru had told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Oct. 2 at Sabon Gari area of Kano metropolis.
Kwaru said that on the same date, at about 7:00 p.m., one Sgt. Hassan Sale attached to Anti Daba Police Unit, Kano, while on patrol on Hausa Road Sabon Gari, Kano arrested the defendants.
“The defendants conspired and armed themselves with dangerous weapons such as knives and sticks in a tricycle attempted to commit an offence,” the prosecution said.
The prosecution argued that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 97 (B) of the Penal Code.
In their submissions before the court, the convicts pleaded guilty to the charge.
