Turkish authorities ordered the detention of 130 suspected supporters of U.S.-based Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen in the second day of sweeping raids across the country.
The suspects, including former and serving soldiers and judges, are accused of having links to Gulen in connection with the 2016 failed coup he is accused of orchestrating, state news agency Anadolu reported on Friday.
Friday’s raids took place in several cities, including Istanbul and the capital, Ankara, and follow detention orders against nearly 150 suspects the day before.
Four years after the abortive plot in July 2016 by a faction in the military, authorities crack down on alleged Gulen supporters almost on a daily basis.
Turkey considers Gulen’s movement a terrorist organisation and says his network has infiltrated key public institutions for decades.
An ally-turned-foe of President Recep Erdogan, Gulen denies the charges.
