The Lagos State House of Assembly has promised continued investment in capacity building of its workers for improved productivity.
The Clerk of the House, Mr Azeez Sanni, gave the assurance in a statement in Lagos on Wednesday.
He issued the statement at the end of a five-day workshop organised by the assembly in partnership with Legis 37, for workers in the Legislative and Publication Directorates.
He said that more than 100 legislative workers attended the workshop
which had the theme: “Capacity Building in the Legislature: A Panacea for Sustaining Effective Performance”.
Sanni said that topics treated at the workshop included: The Bill Process, Public Hearing: The Procedure and Challenges, and Impeachment Process: Implementation and Abuse.
According to him, the topics also included: An Overview of the Influence of the Committee System in the Legislature and Factors Militating Against Effective Oversight in the Nigerian Legislature.
The clerk said that any government or organisation desiring to be successful must invest in staff training.
He said, “A vibrant, efficient and well-informed workforce is an invaluable and indispensable asset to any government.”
Sanni said that the leadership of the House placed much premium on staff development.
He commended the workers for commitment to duty and for ensuring that the policy thrust of the House was being successfully implemented.
