China will allow some international flights to Beijing to resume this week, following a six-month pause due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Nine flights from eight countries with relatively fewer COVID-19 cases will be allowed to land in Beijing, starting on Thursday, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
All international flights to Beijing have been suspended since March 23 as part of the Chinese government’s measures to protect the capital from new potential virus outbreaks.
The eight countries that will be allowed to resume flights are Thailand, Cambodia, Pakistan, Greece, Denmark, Austria, Sweden and Canada, CCTV said.
The first flight will arrive in Beijing from Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh, on Thursday.
After initially criticising other countries for imposing restrictions against Chinese travellers at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, China in March severely restricted international flights and banned most foreigners from entering the country.
Beijing has since relaxed some curbs on foreign workers from certain countries.
China has largely contained the coronavirus outbreak, with new cases slowing down to a trickle.
On Wednesday, China reported no new locally transmitted infections and eight imported coronavirus cases.
