Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun has sought the approval of the state House of Assembly to access a N2.5bn loan facility from the ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Special Intervention Fund.
Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, disclosed this during the plenary on Thursday in Abeokuta.
Oluomo, who read the letter at the plenary, said the correspondence, dated August 12, was received on August 27.
Abiodun, in the letter, said the fund would help to strengthen the health sector of the state to enable it meet up with the rising demand for healthcare products and services.
He added that the step was in line with the programme of his administration at improving health care delivery across the state.
“This move is in line with the programme of our administration to improve healthcare delivery across the state by providing effective and efficient healthcare for our people.
“It has become necessary for the state to participate in the ongoing intervention fund of the CBN, which is given at a single digit interest rate for a 10-year-tenure,”the letter partly reads.
He also explained that access to the loan facility would reduce health tourism from the state and help to conserve foreign exchange while providing long-term low cost finance for healthcare infrastructure development.
