The Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF), says it has developed a press freedom tracker, a database of press freedom violations in Africa, covering a period of over 30 years.
The Executive Director of the foundation, Mr Iliya Kure said in a statement in Kaduna on Sunday, that the Africa Press Freedom Tracker, would provide information on arrests and attacks on journalists.
Kure added that the platform would also provide information on harassment, imprisonment and deaths of journalists on issues related to their work.
According to him, the tracker will serve as a source of useful information to press freedom advocates and researchers among other users.
“The platform will provide specific names of affected journalists, nature of incidences, dates of incidence as well as the culprits.
“It will display case by case information on press freedom violations in Africa, using specific indicators to reveal incidents.
“Visitors can use filters to find specific information on attacks, harassments, imprisonment and deaths of journalists,” he said.
He said that the platform, which would be inaugurated via Zoom on September 29, would be attended by media development organisations, journalists, rights activists, Civil Society Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations, and other press freedom stakeholders.
