The police on Thursday arraigned a 36-year-old man, Solomon Aroge, at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alledged illegal possession of live cartridge.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of illegal possession of live cartridge to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Bankole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 8 at about 8:00 a.m in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant unlawfully had in his possession one live cartridge.
Olasunkanmi said the offence contravened Section 27(b) (ii) of the Firearms Act, 2004.
The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant him bail with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adedayo Oyebanji, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Oyebanji said the surety must be a level 7 in the state civil service.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 21 for hearing.
