Court declares indictment of SSG by assembly illegal, null, of no effect

A 26-year-old man, Moses Ayewole, was on Wednesday arraigned at the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos State, over the alleged theft of a Bajaj motorcycle worth N217,000.

Ajewole is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP. Clement Okuiomose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 17, at about 9:00p.m at No 45, Muniru Str., Ajangbadi area of Lagos.

He said the defendant stole a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number MUS 141 QL valued at N217, 000 belonging to one Fatimo Jimoh.

“The offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” the prosecutor said.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was admitted to bail by the Chief Magistrate, Mr Lazarus Hotepo, in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The chief magistrate adjourned the case till Sept.8, for hearing.
