A Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered a man, Kobla Charles, who stood as a guarantor to sweep the court premises for two weeks.
The police charged Charles, who resides in Mpape, Abuja is charged with one count of screening an offender.
Magistrate Aminu Eri ordered that Charles report to the court for two weeks to sweep the premises after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Eri however, gave Charles the option to pay a fine of N4,000.
Earlier the Prosecution Counsel, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that the complainant, Peter Shaibu of 46, Durban Street, Wuse II, Abuja reported the matter at Wuse Zone Three Police Divisional Headquarters on July 25.
Ejike further said that the convict stood as a guarantor to one Helen Ugwu when she was employed as a receptionist in the complainant’s hotel.
He said Charles duly signed and promised to produce Ugwu whenever she was needed.
Ejike in addition said that however, when Ugwu converted the sum of N85,000 belonging to the hotel to her personal use and absconded, the convict failed to produce her as promised when he stood as her guarantor.
The prosecutor said a recognisance was entered by the convict to that effect but he aided the the offender from lawful punishment.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 168 of the Penal Code Law.
