The Kwara Drug Control Committee, on Wednesday, appealed for a strong collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to stem the tide of drug abuse in the state.
Mrs Barakat Olanrewaju, the Kwara Chairperson of the committee, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the NOA office in Ilorin.
“The committee has started sensitisation programmes and health talks with a view to educating the citizenry on the dangers of drug abuse.
“We have done a lot in sensitising different communities across the state in line with the health agenda of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration.
“The governor has been our backbone,’’ she said.
Olanrewaju reiterated the resolve of the committee to sensitise people across the 16 local government areas of the state on dangers of drug abuse with its attendant evils.
The chairperson also expressed worry about the rising cases of rape in the society, assuring that the committee would also sensitise the society against this evil act.
In his remarks, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, the Director of NOA in the state, commended the efforts of the committee towards sanitising the state against drug abuse.
He added that such efforts had yielded positive results.
Adeyemi explained that the agency had been partnering with the committee in the past, assuring that such partnership would continue until a zero tolerance for drug abuse was achieved in the state.
The NOA boss emphasised the need to join hands to sensitise the citizens and pledged his unflinching support to ensure the overall success of the committee.
