Former President Okusegun Obasanjo has recalled how deceased ruer Senator, Buruji Kashamu, allegedly escaped justice while alive.
Kashamu died in Lagos on Saturday, due to COVID-19 complications, according reports.
He was 62.
While mourning him in a statement, Obasanjo said the lesson in the Kashamu’s passage was that one could use one’s means to escape justice, whenever death came, one would not be able to escape it.
Obasanjo and Kashamu had rough time as Peoples Democratic Party leaders in Ogun State, to the extent that he asked that the deceased should be expelled.
The late politician also had allegations of having escaped justice in the US, and had to battle extradition moves.
In the statement, Obasanjo said:
“The life and history of the departed have lessons for those of us on this side of the veil. Senator Esho Jinadu (Buruji Kashamu) in his lifetime used the manoeuvre of law and politics to escape from facing justice on alleged criminal offence in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.
“But no legal, political, cultural, social or even medical manoeuver could stop the cold hand of death when the creator of all of us decides that the time is up.
“May Allah forgive his sins and accept his soul into Aljanah, and may God grant his family and friends fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
