Amb. Dada calls for investigation into ECOWAS headquarters fire incident

Amb. Zubairu Dada, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, on Thursday called for an investigation into the fire outbreak at the headquarters of the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja to ascertain the cause.

Dada made the call during his visit to the commission’s headquarters over the incident, which occurred on Tuesday night in Abuja.

“The purpose of our visit is to sympathise with the ECOWAS Commission over the fire incident that engulfed some parts of the headquarters.

“We are here to show our solidarity and support at all times, in the spirit of the African brotherhood,” Dada said.

He, however, sympathised with the organisation and commended the fire fighters for the timely intervention in containing the fire.

Receiving the Minister, Mr Jean-Claude Brou, President of the ECOWAS Commission thanked the Nigerian government for its show of concern.

Brou said the cause of the fire was not yet known, but investigations were underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation with the fire department because we want to know exactly what has happened and how it happened,” he said.

Brou said the commission would ensure that the public were informed about the exact situation when the result of the investigation was out, adding, ”hopefully it should be ready in a few days.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a part of the Commission’s building, precisely the floor of the Finance and Accounts Department was engulfed by the fire.
