Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has pledged to help rebuild the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Ilorin structure razed by fire in July.

AbdulRazaq made the promise in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, in Ilorin on Tuesday.

Ajakaye quoted the governor as saying this when Director-General (D-G) of the station, Ibn Mohammed, paid him a courtesy visit in Ilorin

The governor lauded the operations and programmes of the station, saying they gave the people of Kwara a sense of belonging in the national setting.

“I will direct the Commissioner for Works, with whom I went to the scene of the incident, to do an assessment of the damage and we will move on from there.

“We will definitely take ownership as we have always done,” the governor said.

AbdulRazaq said that NTA meant so much to the people of the state and that his administration would continue to support it.

He urged the D-G of the station to consider reviving the NTA community station in Patigi because of its wide coverage and importance to the people of Kwara North.

Speaking, Mohammed commended the governor’s statesmanship and sense of duty in identifying with the station over the fire incident.

According to him, such was a rare show of leadership, which he said had typified the administration of the governor from inception.

He urged the governor to come to the aid of NTA Ilorin, describing it as a property of the people of Kwara.

According to him, although the NTA Patigi had been covered in the 2020 budget, the allocation was insufficient for the projects outlined for the year.

He, however, commended the governor for what he described as his giant strides since his inauguration.

The D-G also commiserated with him on the recent death of his father Alhaji Abdul-Ganiyu Folorunsho AbdulRazaq (SAN).
