The police, on Monday, arraigned two persons, Morenikeji Fasayo, 22 and Kemi Oyewole, 21, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged break-in and stealing.
The accused, whose addresses were unknown, are facing a three-count charge of break-in, stealing and breach of peace.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 24 at about 8:00 pm at No. 24 Afatilo Street, off Oke-Ila in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that the accused entered into the dwelling house and apartment of James Stella and Mary Adako.
Leramo also said that the defendants stole two bags containing clothes and underwear, valued at N25,000, belonging to the complainants.
He added that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace by pouring water inside the room of the complainants and also padlocking their room with another key.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 412, 390(D), 249 and 249(D) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Omowumi Olowolafe, urged the court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, in his ruling, granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties each in like sum.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Aug. 3, for hearing.
