Lawyer to alleged cybercrime fraudster, Ramon Albas, alias Hushpuppy, has said that the manner in which he was moved from Dubai to the United States is tantamount to kidnapping.
The lawyer, Gal Pissetzky, claimed that both Dubai and America did not follow the legal procedures for extradition.
The Chicago, US-based lawyer, told BBC on Friday,
“In my opinion, the FBI and the government here acted illegally when they kidnapped him from Dubai without any legal process to do so,” Mr Pissetzky told the BBC.
“There was no extradition, there were no legal steps taken, there were no court documents filed, it was simply a call to the FBI. He is not a citizen of the United States, the US had absolutely no authority to take him.”
He had earlier told Forbes that Hushpuppy, who has been accused of involving in a fraudulent scheme which defrauded a New York-based law firm of approximately $922,800, among other alleged crimes, that his client was not a criminal but an Instagram entrepreneur.
