The Sokoto State Head of Service, Alhaji Sani Shuni, has sought for the state assembly’s intervention on the uncompleted expansion of Usman Faruk Secretariat in the state.
Shuni spoke when he received the members of the state Assembly Committee on Public Service Matters on an oversight function to the state Local Government Service Commission in Sokoto on Thursday.
The expansion project was awarded by the state government in 2013 at the cost of over N5 billion with a completion period of 14 months.
The project was later revoked by the state executive council in 2014 due to alleged slow performance of the contractor.
It was later, in the same year, awarded to another contractor in which a court order stopped the continuation of the work.
According to the Head of Service, the project, if completed will promote the service of the state and provide sufficient office accommodation for civil servants.
“The visit of the lawmakers is apt being one of the main constitutional function of the assembly.
“However, we are working for the same goal; to promote government activities.
“As such, I appeal on the state assembly for an urgent intervention to ensure the completion of the expansion in the Usman Faruk Secretariat and the project at the Local Government Service Commission.
“This projects when completed will provide sufficient office accommodation for the state Civil servants and enhance service delivery,” he said.
The Committee Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Randa (PDP- Tureta), restated that the state assembly would continue to work closely with all relevant government agencies in ensuring the success of the state.
The committee visited the Sokoto State Primary Staff Pension Board, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Local Government Service Commission and Civil Service Commission.
