A 44-year-old man, Emeka Sunday, who allegedly stole 45 litres of diesel worth N7.9 million, on Friday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Sunday, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Olatunde Kehinde, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 20, at noon, at ABC Engineering Ltd., Apapa, Lagos.
Kehinde said that the defendant stole the diesel from ABC Engineering Ltd., in contravention of Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 stipulates three years’ jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides for two years’ imprisonment for stealing.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs F.M. Kayode-Alamu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Kayode-Alamu orderd that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 3 for mention.
