There is rumbling in the Shinkafi Emirate of Zamfara State following the conferment of the “Sadaukin Shinkafi” on a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, by the Emir, Alhaji Muhammad Makwashe.
as of now, five titleholders have resigned their appointments in anger as they believe Fanikayode is a wrong person to be so honoured.
Among those who resigned are Dr Sulaiman Shinkafi who held the title of Sarkin Shanun Shinkafi and Dr Tijjani Shinkafi who was the Sarkin Marayun Shinkafi.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Sulaiman said: “We the citizens of Shinkafi reject the title of Sadaukin Shinkafi conferred on Femi Fani Kayode by the Emir of Shinkafi in Zamfara State, Mohammed Isah Maikwashe because he does not deserve the title.
“This is a man known to always disrespect and abuse our leaders and forefathers in the region. “On this, I resigned the appointment conferred on me by the same emir as Sarkin Shanun Shinkafi and also a colleague, Dr Tijjani Salihu of Danfodio University also resigned as Sarkin Marayun Shinkafi.”
“We are also expecting six additional title holders today who are resigning their titles. This decision is uncalled for and unacceptable, we were not consulted on this and it is null and void.
“After 24 hours if the decision is not reversed, then the emir should expect wrath of the law and he should also resign.
“We are going to the take to the street for protest against his decision; Kayode doesn’t deserver any title in the North and anyone who tries to give him, we are going to protest against that. Fani-Kayode has no respect for Northern leaders.
“He always disgraces the north, insult our leaders.”
The Wambai Shinkafi, Dr. Sani Abdullahi, has however said Fanikayode’s title has come to say.
‘The PUNCH’ quotes him as saying: “The traditional title given to Chief Fani-Kayode is irreversible and irrevocable. Our emir is someone who has undiluted integrity. Whatever decision he takes, he stands by it. That is his ideology and principle. That was how he was raised.
“The conferment of titles is the prerogative of the emir. We give titles to anyone whether Christian or Muslim or Igbo, Yoruba or Itsekiri. We know where the heat is coming from. It is coming from the immediate past governor of Zamfara State. Those who have resigned their chieftaincy title given to them by emirate are affiliated with the governor.
“There is no hatred between Muslims and Christians or northerners and southerners but some people who want to ignite hatred are reading political meaning to it. He was chosen so that we can foster unity. He served as a minister and represented the whole of Nigeria.”
