The Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, on Tuesday appealed to doctors under the aegis of the Medical Guild in Lagos to call off their warning strike so as to protect the people they sworn to protect.

Hamzat made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in Lagos.

Medical Guild is the Association of Medical Doctors under the employment of the Lagos State Government.

The Guild had on Monday began a three-day warning strike over issues affecting their safety and welfare.

The deputy governor said it was not right for the doctors to go on strike, especially at a time when the Coronavirus pandemic was ravaging the whole world.

“This is not the right time when there is a global issue. It is inhumane, wrong and we must call a spade a spade.

“Are we going to mortgage the lives of our people? Please go back to work so that you can serve and protect the people you have sworn to protect,” he said.

Dr Adebayo Aderiye, Chairman, Lagos State Health Commission, also expressed displeasure about the strike, saying that the present administration had made the health sector a top priority right from inception.

Aderiye appealed to the striking doctors to sheath their sword and go back to work.
