The Federal Government has stopped the resumption of schools earlier slated for August 4.
The Minisister of Education, Adamu Adamu, announced this on Wednesday.
The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, had, two days ago, announced the resumption, which was supposed to be in phases, with pupils in final classes, like those who would sit the WASSCE, billed to first resume.
But Adamu said after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting that the break occasioned by COVID-19 continued.
The FG is, however, not categorical on schools controlled by states as it placed emphasis on federal ones.
Adamu only implored governors who had earlier announced resumption to change their minds.
It is also not sure what would happen to WASSCE candidates as it in a regional exam.
But Adamu said the West African Examination Council could not determine resumption in Nigeria.
Parents and other stakeholders are therefore likely to watch the unfolding scenarios with anxiety.
