A former Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP),Chief Olabode George says he is discomforted by the news of the death of Chief Bode Akindele,a philantropist and renowned businessman.
George, in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, described the news of Akindele’s death as devastating.
Akindele, also Parakoyi of Ibadanland died in Lagos on Tuesday at 88 .
“I was grieved and discomforted on hearing about the transition of a Yoruba elder and Nigerian patriot, Chief Bode Akindele.
“It was a rude shock to me. His passage, though at the advanced age of 88, still saddens, still troubles, still disturbs the soul.
“For he was a good man in all spheres of human characterisation”, he said.
According to the PDP chieftain, late Akindele was humane, caring, selfless and was committed to the good cause.
George said that Akindele cared about everyone and gave all he had without unnecessary publicity.
“He was a giant man in the world of philanthropy and in business arena.
“He was a master at turning little things into a large, enviable enterprise. His Madondola Group of Companies started from the humble beginning when he purchased a sewing machine in 1952.
“He made a profit and turned it over and inevitably spawned a global entrepreneurial concern that spanned the fields of construction, properties, manufacturing and variegated industrial projects that made him a billionaire”, he said.
While describing the late Parakoyi of Ibadanland as a contented, reserved and a humble man, he said Yorubaland had lost a great man and a patriot.
“The world has truly lost a good man. May he find peace and eternal solace in the bosom of the good Lord”, he said.
