General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor EA Adeboye, has reacted to the biting criticism that greeted the tribute he paid to his wife, Mrs Florence Adeboye, when she marked her birthday a few days ago.

He had noted that the wife of 52 years had continued to accept him as the head of the house, cook for him and even help to trim his nails.

Many said he was deriding women while others argued that the biblical saying that the husband is the head of the wife is no more practicable.

Speaking during a sermon titled “From lockdown to lifting up” on July 19, Adeboye said:

“As a matter of fact, if there is a way of preaching this sermon just to my own children alone, that is what I would have done.

Not because I’m selfish but occasionally there are things you say to your children that would annoy outsiders. And you keep on saying, but I am not talking to you, I am talking to my children. But now, the lockdown has made the door open to everybody.

Some people see the glory but don’t know the story. Some people see me and say all kinds of things. It’s none of my business.

I don’t need to answer you. I just need to keep on riding high with my king. I’m talking to my children, so others should not be angry with me. Before you take off, consider your landing.”

The advent of social media has exposed many clerics to harsh criticism. In recent times, for instance, the likes of Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome have been under attacks.

Many social media users no more respect pastor, with the subjects of tithe, poverty, patronage often stirring up controversies.
