United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Monday in Damaturu, donated Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to Yobe Government to support the state in the fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Dr Homsuk Swomen, the UNFPA Programme Officer, presented the items, which comprised of 1,750 face masks, 2000 long hand gloves, 800 pieces of short hand gloves and 193 hand sanitizers, among others.
Speaking at the occasion, Swomen said that UNFPA had also trained staff of the state state government in various fields to enhance their capacity.
He said that UNFPA had been in Northeast before the onset of insurgency and rendering support to the various state governments within the subregion.
Receiving the items on behalf of the government, Dr Muhammed Gana, Yobe Commissioner for Health, represented by Alhaji Abdullahi Dantsuwa, described the hesture as timely.
“This donation made by the UNFPA is timely, particularly that we are facing the scourge of COVID-19.
“We have been receiving donations from various partners, but this one is very essential,”the Commissioner said.
