Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has finally addressed the question of the alleged inconsistencies in his certificates.
He did this on Tuesday after announcing his resignation from the All Progressives Congress.
He was disqualified from recontesting by the party which said it could not take a risk with the alleged inconsistencies.
Obaseki’s predecessor and party chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, particularly championed the battle against him.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Obaseki, however, said there was nothing foul about his papers.
According to him, he could not lay his hands on the original copies of his certificates while contesting in 2016, so he had to swear to an affidavit.
“Someone who hasn’t gone to school, who doesn’t have a certificate, will not understand what inconstituencies in certificates are. The fact is that, in 2016 when I first contested the governorship election, I could not find the original copies of my certificates because I hadn’t needed them for more than two decades. So, I swore to an affidavit. But, subsequently, I found them. Maybe the inconstitunecy is about the NYSC certificate, where ‘i’ is missing in my name. If that is inconsistency for him, then the story is sad.”
