Coronavirus cases are showing dramatic patterns in Nigeria based on situations in Lagos and Kano.
The patterns are positive in a way, as one of the two states where fears were rife weeks ago is no more recording a high rate of infection.
That is Kano, which had, a few weeks back, witnessed and sparked a lot of anxiety.
Although Lagos had earned the ‘hot bed’ or ‘epic centre’ appellate before cases began to come up in Kano, a spate of deaths, including high-profile ones, which the latter suddenly began to throw up, ignited fears.
It was then Kano launched an unprecedented campaign of sending almajiris back to their states, with results eventually showing that a good number of them had been infected.
Going by what has been happening in recent days particularly, the Abdullahi Ganduje-led state has positively receded, with a pattern that should interest experts and analysts alike.
In Monday’s results, for instance, of the 416 new cases Nigeria recorded, Lagos has 192 while Kano has 4.
The 192 is even relatively mild for Lagos, if one recalls that it, just a few days back, recorded more than 300 cases in a day.
Yet, the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration says the state has yet to reach the peak, although with indications that the war is being won.
Part of the intrigues may be resolved by considering the volumes of tests being conducted in both states, with Lagos having done as much as 20,000 as against the about 5,000 in Kano.
Yet, the fact that known infections and deaths have receded in the latter should interest and excite the country.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), in its Monday night chart, said 192 cases were recorded in Lagos, 41 in Edo, 33 in Rivers, 30 in Kaduna, 23 in Kwara, 18 in Nasarawa, 17 in Borno, 14 in FCT, 10 in Oyo, 7 in Katsina, 5 in Abia, 5 in Delta, 4 in Adamawa, 4 in Kano, 3 in Imo, 3 in Ondo, 2 in Benue, 2 in Ogun and 1 in Niger state.
On the whole, Nigeria has recorded 10578 cases; 3122 patients have been discharged from various iIsolation centers across the country, with 299 deaths recorded.
