Nigeria Centre for Disease Control Director General, Chikwe Ihekweazu, has expressed anger at those describing data being released on coronavirus as a fraud.
He said on Tuesday that reporting so amounted to irresponsible journalism.
According to him, the percentages being released are not different from what obtain in other parts of the world.
“We need to understand what these figures mean. Each of those deaths is very painful. These are people, some of them we know,” he said during the ongoing Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing.
He explained that Nigeria had now tested 65,000 people, but stressed that the figures were real.
He noted that 812 health workers had got infected.
“Twenty-nine of them are officials of the NCDC. They have wives, they have children. They are people we know,” Ihekweazu, who said the centre had sent over 100 million text messages, added.
