All Progressives Congress candidate in the Edo State governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has said that God is his godfather.
His aspiration and candidature are believed to have been promoted by party’s Chairman, Adams Oshiumhole.
But he said on Tuesday that only God was his godfather.
He said, “God is my godfather. I think that Obaseki wanted Oshiomhole to be his godfather to him the second time. Oshiomhole was the one who bought him nomination form. He campaigned for him. He used Oshiomhole as a godfather. Maybe now, Comrade Oshiomhole does not want to play the role now.
“If you say the issue in Edo is that of the godfather and godson, why the criss? Obaseki has not said Oshiomhole want him to give him money but he did not give him. He does not say because he wants appointment but he did not give him.
“The issue is that of bad governance. Obaseki has not performed well. Look at the question of security. Every month he gets over N600m as security vote, what does he use the money for? He has not performed well. He has used two and half years fighting.”
In an interview on TVC, Ize-Iyamu, however, said he had been beckoning on Obaseki to come back to the APC.
“I don’t want the impression to be created that my coming chased him out of the APC. I have been to PDP before. The kind of reception he got is not going to last.I think he should come back. I don’t want him to be disgraced in PDP,” he added.
On how the campaign will be run in the face of the COVID-19 battle, Ize-Iyamu noted that it would be grassroots and media based.
He explained, “We have always believed in grassroots mobilization. We believe in a door to door, unit to unit campaign. We have started putting things in place. We don’t need huge rallies to communicate to our people. This election will be more of media. We will use the media very well. We are used to the terrain. In fact, this election may bring a bigger turnout. We will meet people one on one.”
