The Society Committee Against COVID-19 (SOCOCOVID), an NGO, on Thursday recognised Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), as its Ambassador.
SOCOCOVID National Coordinator, Dr Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, said that the society had recognised the role, kind contributions and immense support Runsewe had played in propagating the efforts of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
Ibe-Kalu, in a statement, said that Runsewe’s efforts had also complemented those of the National Center for Disease Control, NGOs and the private sector during this period of Corona virus pandemic.
” Our organisation is not ignorant of the informed programmes you have created to educate Nigerians on the various dangers COVID-19 poses to our existence which has formed a major rallying point of eradicating Corona virus out of Nigeria.
” The DG has demonstrated the love that can only prove that humanity exist to help each other,” he said.
Ibe-Kalu recalled that SOCOCOVI as an NGO was pulling resources together to join in the critical response to flatten the curve of the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
He said that the organisation was among the first NGOs to pay fines for the release of five inmates from Suleja Correctional Detention Centre in line with the decongestion order of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He noted that signing the National COVID-19 Support Register and being decorated as SOCOCOVID Ambassador, Runsewe was telling his own story of the role he played towards winning the war against Corona virus and posterity will never forget him.
“When the register is launched, it will be displayed at the National Assembly, State Assemblies, tertiary institutions, national archives, foreign embassies, High Commissions in Nigeria, Nigeria’s foreign missions abroad and in diaspora chapters,” he said.
Earlier, Runsewe congratulated the organisers for thinking outside the box to undertake such a huge commitment to do a compilation for the Nigerians of today and for generations yet unborn.
Also, the Minister for Women affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, in her keynote address, thanked the Society Committee Against COVID-19 for the great initiative to undertake such a laudable idea.
She urged everyone to support them and always remember to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols at all times.
She encouraged those who were financially blessed to remember to continuously offer a helping hand to the less privileged.
