A Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi, Benue, on Thursday ordered that two men, who allegedly kidnapped a farmer be remanded in a correctional facility, pending legal advice.

The police charged Enenche Omanchi and Emmanuel Attah with criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms and kidnapping.

Magistrate Ajuma Igama, did not take the plea of Omanchi and Attah because the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.

She adjourned the case untill July 9 for further mention.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Sgt. Ato Godwin told the court that the case was reported by Mr Michael Onazi of Igumale, Ado LGA of Benue, at the Divisional Police headquarters Igumale.

He said that the complainant reported that while returning from the farm with his brother, Wisdom, three masked men armed with guns and other dangerous weapons attacked them.

The prosecutor said that Michael further informed the police that the masked men beat them up and kidnapped his brother, Wisdom,21.

Ato said that Omanchi and Attah were arrested in possession of one Single barrel gun, one expended AK 47 ammunition and one expended cartridge.

He also said that eight scrap cell phones and one Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps counter terrorist special forces badge were recovered from them.

The Prosecutor said investigation into the matter was still in progress and asked the court for another date for mention.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 6(b) and 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act 2004 as well as 3(2) of the Abduction, Hostage taking, Kidnapping, Secret cult and Similar Activities Prohibition Law of Benue 2017.
