The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehaniare, has said that he cannot hand over coronavirus patients to people in traditional medicine because he cannot allow the patients to be used as pigs for trial.
According to Ehaniare, the government believes in collaborative efforts but such must follow due medical process.
He said on Wednesday, “Some people with traditional medicine say I should give them 10 or five people to cure. I am not going to give them anyone to go and carry out their tests. You can try out your medicine on animals or volunteers. Also, they have to prove that the medicine is not toxic. They have to show efficacy.”
Ehaniare made this known during the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing, where the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu, also noted that the centre was gathering data that would assist in different areas of the battle.
