Manchester City defender Kyle Walker on Friday said he felt he was being harassed and his mental health was at risk because of the attention he was receiving after reportedly breaking Covid-19 social distancing rules.

The England full back said he went to Sheffield to see his sister on Wednesday to give her a birthday present and hugged her, before going to his parents’ house to pick up some home-cooked meals.

Walker breached lockdown rules in April when, according to media reports, he hosted a party involving two sex workers.

In a statement on Twitter, Walker said he understood he was a role model but said the attention was affecting his entire family.

“I have recently gone through one of the toughest periods of my life, which I take full responsibility for.

“However, I now feel as though I am being harassed. This is no longer solely affecting me, but affecting the health of my family and my young children too.

“I don’t even feel safe in the confines of my home. Why should they have to feel like that too? Who deserves that?” asked Walker.
