Rivers State Governor Nyeson Wike, has reacted to criticisms greeting the demolition of two hotels by his government.
Wike supervised the demolition as the hotels were accused of flouting lockdown order.
According to him, the owner is a hard man who boasted that no one could stop him from operating it.
Wike told AIT on Monday:
Me, as a governor I never knew that hotel can be in that area. When they were taking me there, I hala but they said Oga relax, you will see with your eyes. I was shocked on getting there. Thank God for this Covid 19 that exposed it. Another matter that came up, that boy owner is a hard man. He was declared wanted 3 years ago. He is said to be a youth leader of my Party PDP. thank God is not APC or any other party. He was making noise about that nobody can stop his hotel from operating. Our initial team was attacked and seriously injured. So, I led the demolition team.
On palliative, for each LGA, we handed their palliatives to a committee made up of traditional rulers, journalists, human rights campaigners etc. This prevented looting.
