The Ogun chapter of the All Progressives Party (APC) has commended the “resilience, steadfastness and sacrifices” of Nigerian workers in checking the spread of Coronavirus in the country.
The commendation is contained in a goodwill message issued on Friday in Abeokuta by the chapter’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Tunde Oladunjoye, in commemoration of this year’s International Workers’ Day.
“There is no better period to specially salute the courage and enormous sacrifices of the Nigerian workers than this period of coronavirus pandemic.
“Despite their dwindling purchasing power, Nigerian workers have been in the frontline of keeping the nation running at all cost.
“The pandemic and its attendant lockdown notwithstanding, Nigerian workers have continued to keep the country running in all of the private and public sectors of the economy.
“The heroic contributions of Nigerian workers at this critical time is salutary to say the least,” he said.
Oladunjoye urged governments at all levels to engage their workers in developing and implementing creative solutions to their economic challenges.
“If workers participate in policy formulation, they will own it,” he said.
Oladunjoye noted that such partnership had become necessary in the light of the sharp decline in the global prices of crude oil, which he described as the mainstay of the nation’s economy.
He commended Gov. Dapo Abiodun for his “worker-friendly initiatives” which according to him, have engendered industrial harmony since the inception of his (Abiodun) administration in 2019.
The publicity secretary urged the governor to continue to put the workforce at the centre of the focus of his administration.
“We commend the transformational agenda of Ogun in agriculture which has given hope for bountiful harvest season.
“We also urge the state government to also look at other sectors for revenue generation in view of the present reality as regards decreasing federal allocations,” he said.
