Director General of NAFDAC, Professor Mjisola Adeyeye, has said that the clinical examination of the controversial Madagascar drug has not begun.
According to her, the herbal drug has not got to NAFDAC, noting that it was still with the Ministry of Health.
The drug got to Nigeria last week, with President Muhammadu Buhari stressing that it must be scientifically certified before it could be used.
Speaking on ‘My View’ on TVC on Tuesday, Adeyeye said that the agency would expedite work on the drug as soon as it received it.
She added that NAFDAC had received three other applications for potential drug for coronavirus.
Part of whet would be done, she said, was that the agency would visit the place each of the drug was produced to ensure it was healthy.
She, however, noted that unlike the COVID-19 vaccines that experts said would not be ready until about two years, any drug NAFDAC was testing would be okayed or otherwise within about two months.
She explained that that was the situation with chloroquine which, she said, was undergoing ‘solidarity trial’, which was synonymous with treatment trial.
