The Director General of the National Centre for Disease and Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu, has said that the decision of banks not to open all their branches is counterproductive to efforts being made to curtail coronavirus in Nigeria.
He said this on Monday during the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
He said on that what happened on the first day of easing lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun State showed that there would be more infections.
According to him, because many of the branches were not opened, many people rushed to the few opened, leading to a rush not in the spirit of social distancing.
Ihekweazu thus urged the banks to open up to stem the syndrome, warning that government would reorder lockdown if people continued to violate social distancing.
