The Emir of Rano in Kano State, Amb. Abubakar Tafida, is dead.
Alhaji Kabiru Alasan, the Turakin Rano and member, Rano Emirate Council, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the monarch died on Saturday after a brief illness at the age of 74.
Alasan, who is also a member representing Rano-Kibiya-Bunkure Federal Constituency, told NAN that the Emir passed on while on admission at the Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Nasarawa.
He said that Tafida was earlier referred to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) on Friday, before he was moved to the Nasarawa Hospital.
Alasan added that deceased survived by two wives and 17 children.
Tafida was installed Emir of Rano in 2019, sequel to the creation of five emirate councils by the Kano State
Government.
Kano has witnessed several deaths in the last few days, including those that many now refer to as strange deaths, as the real causes have yet to be ascertained.
Coronavirus has, however, been responsible for some of the deaths.
But the monarch’s passage has not been linked with either.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with Kano State Government and the State Council of Chiefs over the death of the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Tafida Abubakar.
The President’s condolence message was conveyed in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Saturday.
It quoted Buhari as describing the late leader as “someone whose words of wisdom, nobility and decency will be sorely missed, especially at a time the government is relying on traditional rulers to sensitise citizens on directives for safety”.
He urged his family and the Emirate to find solace in the good works of the deceased and ensure his legacies were carried on.
