Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, on Thursday, reported 54 new COVID-19 infections and two more deaths, raising the number of total cases in the country to 2,423 and the death toll to 32.
The two new deaths involved two Thai men aged 74 and 82 years old respectively, Thaweesin Wissanuyothin, spokesman of the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said.
Thaweesin said that out of the 54 newly infected cases, 22 had close contacts with previous patients, five had just returned from overseas including three Thais and two foreigners and eight worked with foreigners infected with COVID-19 among others.
The new cases also include four medical staff, and with that, the total number of medical and public health staff infected with the disease in Thailand has now risen to 80, he said.
The spokesman said most of Thursday’s new cases were found in Thailand’s deep south, where five Thais were tested positive after returning from Indonesia.
He warned that travellers, who conceal their travel history, will have to face the law.
