The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisoluwa Adeyeye, has said that the agency did not test the rice that the Nigerian Customs gave to Oyo and Ondo states as lockdown palliatives.
This runs contrary to a declaration by the Customs in Oyo area that NAFDAC tested the rice.
The state government has said that much of the rice is not good for consumption because it is infested with weevils.
It thus said it would return it to the Federal Government which gave it out as palliatives for coronavirus lockdown.
SAdeyeye said on Tuesday during an interview on ‘Journalists Hangout’ on ‘TVC’ that it was not tested because Customs did not invite NAFDAC to test it.
She said, “In the case of the rice given to Ogun, we were invited to test samples. But in the Customs in Ibadan did not invite NAFDAC. If we were not called to come and take samples, we couldn’t go there. The ones we were called to test for Ogun State was good. But the one for Ibadan, for the Oyo State, we were not called to test it.”
She noted that it was the customs that invited NAFDAC in all cases.
