Sectary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, has painted a grim picture of the state of the health sector in the country.
According to him, he never knew that things are so down with the system.
Before now, many government officials claim they had turned the sector around, while some feign not knowing what really obtains.
This often causes crises in the sector as stakeholders, especially health workers, insist that things are practically down.
But, unlike many other government functionaries, especially politicians, Mustapha, on Thursday, conceded that they situation was appalling.
He expressed his mind when he led other members of the presidential task force on COVID-19 control to the National Assembly, which queried them on the way they are handling donations and some other aspect of the project.
A sober Mustapha said: “I never knew that our entire health structure is in the way it is until I was appointed to do the present job.”
The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, urged the group to ensure accountability and establish a clear line of administration of the funds coming in.
He said, “It is my candid opinion that there is more coordination. Whatever money has been raised should be in one central account. When there is a request, such a request should also pass through us.”
