An Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court has sentenced three men – Amos Philip, Babangida Dantatin and Baraye Abel- to one month community service for violating government lockdown on COVID-19.
Chief Magistrate Bio Salihu ordered the defendants to sweep the premises of the Court for a month starting from April 16.
Salihu said that the punishment would serve as deterrent to others who were still disobeying government directive on the lockdown.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Nasir Yusuf said the defendants were arrested by a patrol team along Saw-mill area, Ilorin, while they were engaged in commercial activities.
He said that the defendants failed to comply with the order restricting movement of people in the state.
Yusuf added that they were brought to the court on a three-count charge of failure to comply with restriction order imposed by government, obstruction of public servant from legitimate duty and disobedient to order.
He said that the offence contravened Regulation 17 Paragraph 1(i) and (iii) of Kwara State Infectious Diseases Emergency Prevention Regulations 2020 and Section 152 of Penal Code.
The defendants pleaded guilty to the offence for which they were arraigned.
