A 33-year-old accounting officer with Access Bank, Mahuyon Avoseh, was on Monday docked in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly defrauding two customers of the bank to the tune of N1,539,000.
Avoseh, whose address is unknown, was charged with stealing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Nkem Ukor, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 6 at 10.00 a.m. at Access Bank, Joseph Dosu Way, Badagry, Lagos.
“The defendant, being the accounting officer to one Mrs Willian Adenike, who is a customer of the same bank, stole N1,374,000 being a total sum of money she deposited to the bank for saving.
“Avoseh also stole sum of N165,000, belonging to another customer, Mr Semako Joseph of same bank, being the amount deposited to the bank for saving.
“The accounting officer was reported to the bank management for this act, he was handed over to the police for prosecution,” he said.
Ukor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be gainfully employed in the civil service.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until April 4, for mention.
