No fewer than 23 persons died in an accident involving a bus on Jahun-Kiyawa Road, in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa.
SP Abdu Jinjiri, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Jigawa Police Command, confirmed the accident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Monday.
Jinjiri said that the incident occurred about 11:30 a.m., saying that the driver of the bus lost control as a tyre burst and while the bus hit a house at Gwanfai village.
He said that immediately after the tyre burst, the vehicle caught fire and all the 22 passengers on-board including the driver burnt beyond recognition.
“The victims included 18 males and five females,” the spokesman said.
NAN gathered that the bus with Reg. Number YD 183 HJA, which was supposed to carry 14 passengers was overloaded with 22 passengers traveling from Jahun to Shuwarin town.
