Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) is to liaise with the Lagos State Government to assist Miss Maryam Shobukola, hit by a stray bullet during a recent fracas between hoodlums and the Police at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.
Its Chairman, Dr Augustine Arogundade, made this known in Lagos on Wednesday during a visit to the family of Miss Maryam Shobukola, an SS2 Student of Delight International School, Aboru, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos.
The fracas ensued between the Police and hoodlums around Iyana Ipaja area on Feb. 5, while enforcing the restriction order on motorcycles and tricycles in the state.
Arogundade was accompanied by some staff of the LCDA to the residence of the family.
He sympathised with the student’s father, Alhaji Mukaila Shobukola and delivered monetary package from the council.
“I initially heard this unfortunate incident as a rumour and later went to Ifesowapo Secondary School to verify but I was informed that nothing of such happened to any of their students.
“Shockingly, l read the online news about Maryam’s predicament on my phone and l had to find all means within my tight official schedule to pay this compassionate visit.
“At least to see how l can assist the parents and ensure that the girl gets the best medical treatment in order to continue with her normal life,” the chairman said.
According to him, I have mandated the council manager, supervisor for health and the medical officer of the LCDA to write a letter to the governor.
Arogundade said the council would also liaise with the Lagos State Commissioner for Health to assist the family in giving Maryam proper medical treatment.
“l am optimistic that our amiable governor will surely come to her aid on medical ground in addition to what our LCDA has offered.
“The council is still willing to do more for the girl in order not to lose her productive life,” he added.
Responding, the Head of the family, Alhaji Kabiru Akala, thanked the chairman and his team for the visit and kind gesture.
Akala, however, appealed for more assistance from the council and state government for their daughter’s quick recovery.
“The girl has gone through various medical tests and scans.
“She still has to go for two additional operations, after she finished the first operation at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where she was referred to for further treatments from Orile-Agege General Hospital,” he said.
