The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, has described the action of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurasheed Akanbi, who physically attacked another Oba, Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa, Oba Dikrullahi Akinropo, as total irresponsibility.
The Alake said the Oluwo had dented the sacredness of obaship with his action.
The monarch stated this on Tuesday morning during a programme on TVC, ‘My View’, on which he was a guest.
According to him, no matter how upset a monarch is, he must not be seen engaging in a physical combat, let alone boxing another monarch.
He said, “What he did is totally unheard of, for an Oba to attack another oba. It is totally indefensible. Somebody has to apologise for desecrating the sacredness of obaship. It is a heritage we inherited and must pass on to others.”
The Alake said that whatever feud the Oluwo had with another oba could have been handled by the Osun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
“Was it not the same person singing ‘Eni ti o to ni na to n dena deni’ before the incident? If he had that kind of tendency he could engage in boxing in his palace,” Oba Gbadebo added.
On the Oluwo’s claim that the other oba first pointed his staff at him, the Alake said it should still not have degenerated into a fight, adding that the staff pointing could have been a coincidence.
