A 38-year-old storekeeper, Kehinde Lawal, on Thursday pleaded guilty to stealing cartons of fish worth N299,000, contrary to Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, a storekeeper at M-rag Nig. Enterprises, pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and fraud before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Lawal admitted that he stole the fish from one Mrs Rashidat Gambo in the guise of supplying them to customers and paying for them.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Olagbende, consequently remanded the storekeeper at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.

The chief magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 13 for review of the facts and sentencing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Joel Ismaila, had told the court that the defendant committed the offences in April 2019 on Kadara Street, Ebute-Meta.

Stealing is punishable with three years’ imprisonment under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, while fraud contravenes Section 314 of the law.
