Nigeria recorded the violent death of another prominent person on Thursday when herbal medicine practitioner, Alhaji Yusuf Fatai Oko Oloyun, was shot dead.
He was killed along Eruwa-Igboora roa in Oyo State around 4:30pm, as already confirmed by the police.
According to the Oyo State Police PRO, Gbenga Fadeyi, his corpse has been deposited at the Igoora General Hospital.
This, incidentally, happened a day after a leading politician, Alhaji Oladimeji Oreitan, was killed in Ibadan, the state capital.
While details of the death are still sketchy, Oko Oloyun’s murder harbours some irony going by what he was believed to have stood for as a herbal doctor.
The name, ‘Oko Oloyun’, means ‘husband of the pregnant woman’.
This he earned based on his interventions in the lives of pregnant women who approached him for care, while he was also involved in helping people against barrenness.
Now that the man reputed for such exploits, among other areas he explored, has been shot dead, observers are likely to see his departure as that of a bad irony as the gunmen have halted the journey of the husband and guard of the pregnant woman.
His death will be another test to the capacity of the country’s security network, in terms of whether or not the operatives will be able to find the killers.
Unfortunately, if one asks Nigerians, many of them are not likely to have much hope in this regard, based on how the police have not been able to resolve many high-profile murders in recent and and not too recent years.
Apart from Oko Oloyun’s immediate family and his clients that will miss him, his death will also render a good number of people jobless, unless he left a structure that can advance his expansive business.
He had been around for some time and he ensured he constantly expand his business and brought out new products – with very intoxicating names, usually.
As a result, he was able to engage more people directly and indirectly.
Besides, the culture, entertainment and media – especially grassroots media – will sorely miss him as he regularly patronised them.
