A 35-year old man, Micheal Akpan, who allegedly stabbed a man to death with knife, was on Thursday docked at an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
The defendant was arraigned on a charge of murder.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that his plea was not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alex Komolafe, ordered the remand of the defendant pending an outcome of legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Cousin Adams, urged the court to remand the defendant in Correctional Centre for 30 days pending legal advice.
Komolafe granted the request of the prosecutor.
Adams alleged that Akpan had used a knife during an argument to stab the deceased, Daniel Nse, to death on Jan. 2, at about 10.00 p.m., at Idi Araba.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 223 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015 which stipulates a death sentence for offenders.
