A forklift operator, Patrick Emefu, was on Tuesday charged with conspiracy, damage and stealing before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Emefu, 33, who resides at No. 42, Lagos St., off Akilo Road, Ogba in Lagos State, was alleged to have stolen three pallets of empty crates of stout bottles worth N93, 133.
The defendant who pleaded not guilty to the offence was working for Guinness Nigeria Plc.
The prosecutor, Insp Victor Eruada, told the court that Emefu and some persons currently at large committed the offence on Dec. 11, 2019, at 3:15 a.m.
He added that they committed it at Guinness Nigeria Plc., warehouse in Agege area of the state.
Eruada said that the defendant conspired with his cohorts to steal the empty crates and kept them in the warehouse, property of Guinness Nigeria Plc.
“Emefu damaged the glasses of the security office through which he gained entrance into the warehouse,’’ the prosecutor said.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 411, 350 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The chief magistrate, Mrs M. I. Dan-Oni, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Feb. 5, for mention.
